Did you know that Black U.S. leisure travelers spent a staggering $109.4 billion in 2019? Even more exciting, nearly 70% of these travelers are seeking experiences that are rich in culture and history. Afri-Centric is on a mission to engage with travel enthousiasts positioning South Africa as the ultimate destination for cultural and historical exploration.
In an exciting and groundbreaking initiative, Afri-Centric, a boutique luxury travel company based in South Africa, recently hosted an exclusive Media Familiarization (FAM) trip in partnership with the Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency (ECPTA) and other industry leaders. This incredible journey was designed to open the eyes of top U.S.-based travel agents, writers, and influencers to the vibrant, diverse, and awe-inspiring landscapes of South Africa.
To bring this vision to life, Afri-Centric teamed up with Atlanta-based PR powerhouse, The Blake Agency, in 2023. Their collaboration resulted in an unforgettable 10-day adventure, perfectly crafted around four exhilarating pillars: history, nature and safari, arts and culture, and of course, scenic and immersive wine experiences. Participants were treated to the full spectrum of South Africa’s splendor—from Johannesburg’s rich historical tapestry to the breathtaking natural beauty of the Eastern Cape, the vibrant arts scene of Cape Town, and the world-renowned wines of the Cape Winelands.
ECPTA, as the trip’s biggest travel partner, played an instrumental role, rolling out the red carpet with luxurious accommodations and exclusive access to cultural gems like the National Arts Festival. This partnership is a beautiful reflection of ECPTA’s dedication to responsible tourism and conservation, perfectly aligning with Afri-Centric’s mission to deliver unique, immersive travel experiences.
Vuyani Dayimani, CEO of ECPTA, couldn’t have said it better: “This collaboration is a testament to our unwavering commitment to showcasing the Eastern Cape’s extraordinary offerings. Our province is a treasure trove of cultural richness, natural beauty, and iconic adventures, and we’re thrilled to share it with the world.”
For Itumeleng Pooe, the passionate owner of Afri-Centric, this partnership was nothing short of a dream come true. “Bringing Black American travelers closer to South Africa’s rich history and vibrant culture has always been our mission, and this media FAM trip was the perfect opportunity to create truly transformative experiences.”
Through this unforgettable journey, Afri-Centric is not just inspiring a new wave of travelers but inviting them to fall in love with South Africa’s heart and soul. Ready to pack your bags?
