Okay, not all meter maids are the devil, just one particular meter maid in the Detroit Parking Violations Bureau. We’ve all encountered our fair share of malicious and evil people, who intently make it their business to ruin the days and lives of others. I guess Monday, January 13th was my day to encounter the face of street parking evil.
After returning to my parked vehicle in the frigid cold, I thought it would be best that I let the car warm up for a few minutes. (After all, the meter hadn’t expired and since I’m clearly warming up my car – I shouldn’t have any issues, right? WRONG.) Within minutes, an angered meter maid aka officer LJ #240 pulled along side my vehicle and with a twisted facial expression yelled in audible words and immediately pulled away.)
Less than five minutes later, she pulled back around and once I rolled down my window – she says “Didn’t I tell you to MOVE!” at that point I was confused and surprised, I mean, I was warming up my car. My response, “I’m warming up my car, and I’ll be out of your way in a moment.” She then proceeds to back up and write a citation. But before she completely backed up, I jumped out the car and put a quarter in the meter and returned to my car. Less than a minute later, the meter maid gets out of her city issued car, laughs and tosses the ticket in my window.
Normally, my bad temper would’ve gotten the best of me – however, I was not only surprised and disheartened but for a moment this representative for a city that I love actually made me HATE everything about Detroit. It’s sad that a city’s evolution and overall view could be hindered by piss-poor public servants like LJ #240 – but I guess that’s the way the city cookie crumbles…
In theory, businesses should empower employees that in turn will power the brand. With employees like LJ #240 – I don’t foresee any major empowerment accomplishments in the City of Detroit Parking Violations Bureau anytime soon. But what I do foresee is filing a complaint and requesting a court hearing (unfortunately wasting hundreds in tax-payer money) …all to fight an unnecessary $20 parking ticket that should not have been issued in the first place.
