If at first you don’t succeed, TRY, TRY again. Samsung is keeping the wearable tech trend moving with two brand new smartwatches to follow up the Galaxy Gear from last year. The Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo have dropped the “Galaxy” preface and if you’re a Samsung Galaxy smartphone user looking for more wearable options, you may want to give these smart watches a second look.
Powered by a 1.0 GHz dual-core processor, the watches will bring up call, text, social, and other notifications right to your wrist. But, the big upgrades this time around focus on what the watches can do by themselves – without your smartphone. Both watches are also music players with 4 GB of internal storage. Here’s the zinger, with the WatchON Remote app, you can also use the Gear watches as remotes for your televisions!
Just in case you’re still locked and loaded into your new year’s fitness resolution the Gear watches will be stocked with everything need in fitness tracking!
The one key difference between the Gear 2 and the Gear 2 Neo is the camera – the Gear 2 has one, while the Gear 2 Neo leaves it out, to be cheaper and a little lighter. The Gear 2 camera is 2 MP, and is capable of taking shots in 1080p. Both the Gear 2 and the Gear 2 Neo are smartwatches with 1.63” 320 x 320 screens. Both run on the Tizen platform, which has been designed for wearable tech, but these are very much made to be smartphone companions.
The Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo are both dust and water resistant, and can come with different colored wristbands – Charcoal Black, Gold Brown, and Wild Orange for the Gear 2, and Charcoal Black, Mocha Grey, and Wild Orange for the Gear 2 Neo. The new Samsung smartwatches will be available in April.
A front facing camera for selfies or a unique social sharing? (You be the judge.) Would you buy into the new wearable tech trend? What do you think?
