Who wants to test drive the most innovative technology and also have a great time eating, drinking, and partying in one location? Let’s visit SXSW! Over the years the South by Southwest (SXSW) Interactive Festival, which has an attendance this year of 30,000 has been a launching pad for many social media tools we use today.
Twitter got its start at the 2007 conference and Foursquare was launched four years later. Many who attend the conference want to see the coolest and newest tech finds presented. Here are a few we snippets we found:
Our Favorite SXSW Tech Finds
MakerBot introduces the Digitizer
MakerBot unveiled Digitizer, the desktop 3-D printer that scans small three dimensional objects, so that can be replicated on the printer. The printer essentially scans a real object and creates a digital file from it. The digital files can be sent to other 3-D printers and printed on demand. Swagify posted the best POD sites for beginners on their website.
Memoto Camera
The life blogging camera Memoto, which clips to your shirt and snaps pictures every 30 seconds – hands free. It’s like a video journal capturing your life as it happens. It is a miniature 8 gigabyte, 5-megapixel camera that takes photos every 30 seconds. Pictures can be streamed via cloud service for backup and the smart phone app lets you view all your photos.
The Talking Google-Modified Adidas Sneaker
“On Saturday, Google showcased an experiment with its platform called “Art, Copy, and Code.” And the talking shoe is called “An Experiment in Connected Objects,” part of a series of experiments to re-imagine advertising. Google stresses that it’s not prototyping a talking shoe or planning to put one on sale, but they certainly captured the attention of SXSW attendee. It’s like having your own trash-talking personal trainer in your shoe. The sneakers are connected to an accelerometer, gyroscope and pressure center linked to a smart phone app and a speaker. And they’re engineered to respond to your actions with a certain level of snark. In the Google video the shoe says “Are you a statue? Let’s do this already.”
