Yesterday Apple gained an interesting new employee. Paul Devene former CEO of the prominent Yves Saint Laurent high-end fashion line. I know many of you are thinking what in the heck is Apple doing hiring a fashion guy. Devene actually worked at Apple’s Europe division form 1990 to 1997 before moving on to other companies and fashion houses.
What is Paul Devene’s Role at Apple?
He was hired as vice president of special projects who reports to Apple CEO Tim Cook directly. We can expect some of his expertise to go into overseeing the marketing of the forthcoming smartwatch on the way later this year. It will be intriguing to see how everything plays out for the Cupertino-based company.
Contrary to earlier speculation, Apple says that Deneve will work on “special projects,” not in retail. Apple has been without a de-facto Head of Retail since John Browett’s departure last fall. It is unclear what projects Deneve will be developing specifically…
This hire shows how seriously Apple is taking on “wearable technology”. It will definitely be a big move and Paul Devene sure has a lot of experience in that field. So many questions come to mind when it comes to wearable technology. But based on Paul Devene’s tweet, he knows that Digital plays a HUGE role in all information.
