Volvo’s have come a long way from the boxed frames and squarish exteriors of yesteryear. As a former Volvo S80 owner, I’ve become accustomed to driving a Volvo with the knowledge that it may not have been the most stylish, but it was definitely one of the safest vehicles on the road. That was then, this is now! The new 2015 Volvo S60 T6 Drive-E is not only a sleek-bodied upgrade to the Volvo family, it’s also a technologically sound sedan that offers amazing performance, fuel economy and overall enjoyable ride. (…and as my first Volvo review on the site – I was super excited to get behind the wheel and see just how amazing the new Volvo truly is!)
The first noticeable feature of the 2015 Volvo S60 T6 Drive-E you’ll find is the tailored lines and smooth body shape that rivals other high-end luxury sedans. With an enlarged Volvo “ironmark” logo and horizontal chrome stripes, retouched LED with LED lights and alloy wheels – this Volvo is so chic, it made everyone want to hitch a ride and drive.
The interior makes sure that the driver feels like she’s in her own cozy, tech-savvy cockpit. Equipped with a control steering wheel and “floating” center console, the cockpit isn’t super roomy but it is spacious enough to fully control the ride, climate and entertainment all while ruling the road.
Once behind the wheel of the 2015 Volvo S60 T6 Drive-E, you’ll discover the power behind the IntelliSafe suite of safety innovations designed to prepare you and your Volvo for life’s unexpected moments, like a sudden stop from the car in front of you, or a cyclist zipping past. It will even keep you in your lane or help you park in a tight space. What’s more, Intellisafe is standard on every single Volvo that rolls off the assembly line.
Since Volvo believes an intelligent car is a better car, they developed technologies to create an intuitive, well-rounded vehicle that’s fierce to drive. No other carmaker has a fully connected system like Sensus available in all of their models around the globe. Sensus Connect has been recognized by the auto industry as a best-in-class infotainment system. With built-in WiFi, your car is your personal hotspot, you can leave your home without leaving your connected life behind.
With built-in USB and auxiliary connectors, plus wireless connectivity via Bluetooth, and broadband technology, you can disconnect from home and reconnect with the road. Connect any Bluetooth or WiFi-enabled smartphone to your Volvo to receive texts. Plus, make hands-free phone calls and stream music through the in-car audio system. Volvo Sensus Navigation apps put information at your fingertips. Navigate with ease, check the weather on the fly or simply discover your surroundings. (There’s even a Volvo app aka Volvo On Call that allows users to remotely start your engine, check fuel level, door lock status, maintenance warnings, or simply see the weather near your car.)
The butter soft leather and sports-inspired seats are engineered and built for the long-haul ride. Heated seats are available for both front and rear occupants. While the 2015 Volvo S60 T6 Drive-E can easily fit five adults in the car, I would advise that you stick to a four-adult drive to ensure that everyone rides comfortably.
Interior features include:
Bucket 8-way power front seats * Split-folding rear seatback * Folding rear backseats with storage and pass-thru armrest * Power windows * Heated mirrors * Dual zone climate controls * Power windows * Bluetooth enabled * 2-speaker, 650-watt sound system
The Intellisafe system keeps the car on high alert, even if you aren’t. Active High Beam automatically senses other vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists and temporarily switches between low and high beams at night. If your car starts to veer out of its lane, the lane keeping aid kicks in, gently steering you back and sending warning vibrations to keep you alert. Forward Collision Warning scans all objects within 500 feet in front of your car and if an accident is imminent, it warns you and preps the brakes for a quick stop.
The 2015 Volvo S60 T6 Drive-E runs sparingly with trunk space – so don’t expect a ton of room for shopping bags inside. However, if you’re looking for a first-class and stylish sports sedan and also want to stand out from the crowd, the 2015 Volvo S60 looks great, goes fast and sets the standard in safety features for you and your family. Starting around $44k, the 2015 Volvo S60 T6 Drive-E is a great alternative to the BMW 3 Series, Audi A4 and Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedan competitors with safety features that blow away the competition.
