Nothing screams sexy like seven-passenger seating (yes, that would have been typed in sarcasm font if such a thing existed). Let’s be real, aside from old rap shenanigans like rollin’ in MPVs, trucking around a Wu-sized crew typically means you’re deep in parenthood and have abandoned all sense of style – at least with your vehicle. If you’re looking for ways to look hot in a mini-van, the Infiniti JX has you covered.
Not so fast, Mami (or Papi) says Infiniti. Brand-new for the tail end of 2012, the Japanese house of luxe has unwrapped its JX CUV – a considerably scaled down hauler compared to its bulbous QX-56, but a svelte, sexy crossover that just so happens to also seat seven. Taking clear aim at Acura’s MDX, the JX is the latest manifest of Infiniti’s calligraphic design language, delivering curves dips and dives, as opposed to the competition’s angular, abrupt drop-offs. Sitting right between siblings FX and QX in its stance, the J’s car-like driving position delivers a much more connected feel to the road, not unlike its well-tuned suspension and exhaust note.
But not so fast, again. If you’re expecting the JX’s 265hp V6 to pin your gut to the lumbar, you’re clearly in denial about your current purpose in life. Still, for a cleanly packaged people-mover, it sprints at a more than adequate rate, cruises comfortably and pulls decent MPGs (18 city/24 highway) for its segment. Been wishing you could afford a nanny? The JX’s combination of Lane Departure Prevention, Blind Spot Intervention, and Intelligent Brake Assist technologies (all for the most part easily disabled) will have you feeling like Mary Poppins is riding shotgun.
Finishing off the CUV’s fine feel is a handsomely trimmed cabin, available with a number of options for wood, brushed metal and supple hide. No matter how you dress it up, the fit and finish isn’t unlike that of your favorite pair of out-on-the-town denim – and no, we don’t mean mom jeans. Paired with a clean, easy to work infotainment system, the JX is more proof that Infiniti has truly earned the right to label their wares as luxury. Go try one on for yourself; you just might find that family life doesn’t have to cramp your style.
