Samsung has another device coming out!

Did you know?  Samsung is making a smart watch.   They openly announced the future product to Bloomberg News last week.  Samsung is always in the tech news. The company didn’t give any details about the watch only to say it is coming soon and as a major competitor to the iPhone watch. Are you surprised by that? What do you think of the prototype?

 

Tech News – App Acquisition

Yahoo Agrees to Acquire Summly:

Yahoo has purchased the app Summly for a reported $30 million dollars.  “Summly is a free, fast, convenient, and easy way to browse news articles, allowing you to quickly scan the news you want to see, before diving into the full article.”  (summly.desk.com)

It received Apple’s Best App of 2012 award.  It was created by Nick D’Aloision, who was 15 years old at the time.  When introduced in November, the app had hundreds of thousands of downloads.  After Yahoo scooped up the app they quickly closed it down to fine tune its specifications.

 

Tech News – New Popular App

On Instagram if you like a pic you see you hit the like button, if you don’t like the pic you move on.  That simple.  Now that is changing.  Enter the Hater App. Yup.  Express Yourself.  NOT!  Sometimes a piece of technology is created with good intentions and can spiral out of control and become a vehicle for being mean.  People are using the app to hate on Facebook posts and other social media outlets.  I hope that doesn’t happen.  However, this app can serve a greater purpose for companies that want to test revamped or new product lines and have their customer base rate the products.  That can be an awesome tool.

This is what the creator Jake Banks said about Hater App: “It’s basically like Instagram for everything you hate.” The app launched to much fanfare at SXSW’s Start-Up Village and offers users a personal stream for uploading or taking photos of things they dislike. Images may then be shared with the larger ‘Hater’ community, where they can be viewed by others for comments and feedback. That being said, it was never Banks’ intention to create an outlet for mindless negativity. “It doesn’t have to be so negative,” he says. “You might hate something so much you want to change it, which is the complete opposite of what happens when you ‘Like’ something.”

Have You Heard – Trends In Social Media

Trends

1.       2012 was the year of Pinterest and Instagram because people love consuming image-based posts.  2013 will be no different.  Imagery will become even more important for social branding to generate interaction with followers and consumers.

2.       The 6-second video recording app Vine might be huge because of word of mouth and its integration of text and video – which is what Twitter is lacking.

3.       Twitter is the one true real-time social platform and will continue to explode due to the easy access of live information.

4.       Vevo is set to become the biggest music video site with YouTube and Google’s’ backing and investment.  At SXSW Vevo announced their launch of a live channel to bring the next generation of music television online.
