Kicking off GRAMMY week festivities last week, Essence Magazine and the Lincoln Motor Company hosted a lux media luncheon honoring UK singing sensation Emeli Sandé.
“Emeli Sandé brings fresh, groundbreaking style as a performer and songwriter, which makes her a perfect match with the new perspective the Lincoln Motor Company is bringing to the luxury segment,” said Shawn Thompson, Lincoln manager, multicultural marketing. “Lincoln is pleased to be the presenting sponsor of the 2014 ESSENCE Black Women in Music event because it celebrates strong and creative women.”
Emeli Sandé’s debut album, Our Version of Events, became the top-selling album in the U.K. for the second year in a row and to date has sold 238,000 units in the USA, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
For Emeli Sandé, fame is still something she’s getting used to. Born Adele Emeli Sandé, she’s best known by her middle name, and sees the two monikers as a separation between her work self and her true self. Still, the English-born, half-Zambian singer/songwriter loves creating through song, poetry and even visual arts. To her, whatever she creates is an expression of who she is.
The success of Emeli’s debut has won her several awards, including 3 Brit and 4 MOBO Awards. Sandé, never taking anything for granted, appreciates her blessings. ”Just thinking of all the things I’d done getting there and everything I’ve sacrificed to do so … What’s happening now makes it worth it.”
Sandé has written for a number of GRAMMY-winning artists. She is among a select few featured in Lincoln Motor Company’s “Journey” campaign, a program that explores inspiration, entrepreneurship and people who have followed their dreams.
