Yesterday, Verizon introduced the newest members of the Motorola Droid family of products. But rather than just refresh last year’s models and call it day, Moto decided to up the ante by continuing to add innovation to the brand. Innovation that is worthy of the spotlight. The trio of new Droids consist of: the Mini, Ultra, & the Maxx.
The 2013 Droid family offers 24% faster CPU speeds, 100% faster GPU, a Kevlar unibody design w/ Gorilla Glass coating, and is water-repellent. Motorola’s is using their new custom X8 Mobile Computing System that combines a 1.7GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 Pro application computing processor, a 400MHz quad-core GPU chip, 1 contextual computing, 1 natural language computing and a power/audio management system into chipset. All devices are running Android 4.2.2, 2MP front-facing + a f/2.4 10MP rear-facing Clear Pixel camera w/ 60fps 1080p HD video capture.
What are the key differences between the three Droids?
Droid Mini offers a 4.3-inch display, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and a 2000 mAh battery.
Droid Ultra offers a larger, 5inch AMOLED display, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and a 2130 mAh battery capable of 28-hours of juice.
Droid Maxx offers the same specs as the Ultra but with 32GB of storage and a 3500 mAh battery capable of a whopping 48-hours of juice.
Some of the new features to the Droid family begin with Droid Zap. This is their native media sharing feature a la Galaxy S Beam that allows you to share photos by swiping up to share and catch them by swiping down. Also along for the ride, are the many features expected to see on the upcoming Moto X like access voice access to Google Now via Touchless Control and double-twist of the wrist for Quick Camera Capture (faster to way to camera mode without having to unlock your device).
As added bonuses: the viral game Ingress comes pre-loaded as Droid users can invite up to 5 users. Consumers who buy/pre-order by September 30th get 6 months of Google All Access service for free.
