It’s a great time to be a woman in technology! A once male dominated field – filled with pocket protectors and scientific calculators is now becoming inhabited by fun, fierce and creative women with a lot to say and even more to contribute to technology’s advancement. That’s why I’m so excited to be participating in the Women Interactive Creative Technology Festival October 12-13th at Spelman College in Atlanta, GA.
Presented by the Art of Genius Creative Technology Series and Spelman College’s Digital Moving Image Salon (DMIS), Women Interactive Creative Technology Festival is a one day interactive technology festival for women of color who produce and share media content. In keeping with the fast paced nature of technology, the WI Festival will allow college students, collegiate faculty, technology and media professionals the opportunity to interact with innovative technology by following the three pillars in which the festival is based: Interact. Educate. Inspire.
During the festival, I’ll be joining Mattie James – Mattieologie / Fashion Bloggers of Color, Tami Reed of Talking with Tami and Lamar & Roni Tyler of Black and Married with Kids.com discussing ways to “Monetize Your Creativity” and harnessing the power of cashing in on your brand. We see them on television all the time, people who’ve managed to make a living off of their creativity. But you don’t have to be the next Scarlett Johansson and make $20 million a film to make a living off of your creativity. It is possible for us regular folks to make money off of the content we create. While we won’t be able to show you how to make $20 million off of your compelling piece of content, we can provide you with some tools to begin turning your content into dollars. Education Suites -Participate in media and technology workshops, specifically geared toward the creation and sharing of media content. All exhibitions and education workshops are executed in 30, 20 and 15 minute intervals allowing attendees to get high quality information in a short amount of time.
Inspiration Hall & Screening Rooms -Experience cutting edge media content and advanced technological exhibitions. All exhibits must be written, directed and/or produced by a woman of color.
