Last month Microsoft informed users that the Windows Live Messenger messaging service will be retired and users migrated to Skype on March 15th, moving to one communication service.
Users can now leave video message recordings to contacts – even when the contact is offline or on another call using video voice mail. Currently, Skype is mostly used by desktop users and this change is geared to increase Skype use for mobile users, making it easier to call friends and family from any device. The service is available for Microsoft, Android, iOS, and Mac tablets and smart phones – and its free.
Microsoft acquired Skype back in 2011, from eBay. Skype has more than 600 million users. It is rumored that Skype will also replace XBox Chat too. Microsoft will take advantage of the voice over internet protocol (VoIP) communications service for mobile use and the built-in cameras on mobile devices. Skype is already integrated with Facebook, Outlook, Windows 8, and Microsoft Office 365. Skype is poised to become the #1 video messaging service because of its integration across platforms and media.
You can use Skype on the following platforms:
Windows
Mac OS X
Linux
Mobile smart phones and tablets
PSP
PS Vita
TVs and Blu-ray devices
