Instagram is bringing the power of direct connections allowing users to share pictures and videos directly to friends and not all followers with a new feature called Instagram Direct.
Announced earlier today during a press event, Instagram proclaimed over today’s festivities by sending physical Instagram images printed on canvas to members of the press. The company clarified that only those who you follow can send direct pictures and videos. If you don’t follow them, you will receive a pending request to view the content.
“Communication is really core,” an Instagram spokesperson said. “It’s not about photography necessarily. We aren’t built into cameras. We are built into phones, and phones are communication devices.” The update is available for iOS download and Android starting today. The Windows Phone version is in beta.
Now that Instagram has given users a little privacy to “protect the thirst” – it’s going to be a whole new playing field and #ManCrushMondays and #WomanCrushWednesdays will never be the same again? (LOL) At the moment, you can only send direct photos or videos but with the continued evolution of the app, I’m sure messaging (or creative captioning) will get thrown into the mix somehow. It’s a brave new world when it comes to social media and I can’t wait to see what they come up with next.
First there were photos, then videos, then ads and now direct messaging – what do you think about the latest Instagram upgrade? Do you plan on sending Instagram Direct messages anytime soon?
