On Tuesday, February 24th – I along with other NYC tech media got a first hand look at the new Samsung Galaxy S5, Gear 2 and Gear Fit devices at the Samsung Galaxy Studio in NYC. During the unique product experience, guests had the chance to enjoy food, drinks and witness the LIVE Unpacked 5 event announcements from Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. After the event, I got the chance to get hands on with the new Samsung Galaxy S5, Gear 2 smart watch and Gear Fit wristband.
Favorite features thus far:
Samsung Galaxy S5 – Fingerprint sensor. Galaxy S5 has a built-in sensor that will allow users to unlock their phones with a fingerprint scan. The sensor has other security functions as well: it will act as password protection for PayPal payments, according to Samsung.
Samsung Gear 2 – 4G Memory w/ Bluetooth music capabilities. Samsung decided to turn the new Gear 2 into a wearable music player, thanks to its standalone music player with Bluetooth player. Users will be able to go running outdoors or working out at the gym wirelessly by listening to music without the need to carry their smartphones.
Samsung Gear Fit – Heart rate monitoring sensor. The Gear Fit includes a built-in heart rate monitor on its rear panel, allowing the fitness tracker to measure your beats per minute via its onboard app. During the hands-on, the app was able to instantly detect heart rate and display it on the Fit’s screen.
Check out a quick demo of a few of my favorite S5 and Gear 2 features from the fingerprint scanner to built in heart rate monitor coupled with a few moments of in studio shenanigans below…
