ESSENCE’s 2012 Black Women in Music event is set to honor Grammy-nominated artist Kelly Rowland and music industry veteran Sylvia Rhone tonight in Los Angeles.
“Lincoln is pleased to be the exclusive automotive sponsor of the ESSENCE Black Women in Music event for the third year,” says Shawn Lollie, Lincoln manager of Multicultural Marketing. “We are thrilled to continue our relationship with the magazine in honoring these talented women, and participate in events like these that speak to the Lincoln customer.”
During the course of her career, Kelly Rowland has sold more than 60 million albums worldwide — both as a solo artist and one-third of the legendary group Destiny’s Child. She’s currently nominated for a 2012 Grammy for her platinum selling single “Motivation,” featuring Lil Wayne.
Sylvia Rhone’s career spans three decades, and she is touted as one of the music industry’s most influential female executives. Most recently she served as the president of Universal Motown Records, where she oversaw the careers of Kelly Rowland, Nicki Minaj, Erykah Badu and MC Lyte.
“Kelly and Sylvia are two very influential women in the music industry and having Lincoln sponsor an event honoring them is a great fit as we expose the luxury brand to influential buyers,” says Lollie. “This is a great way for modern consumers, like African-American women, to engage with our vehicles in a fun, fresh and glamorous way.”
The 2012 Lincoln MKX premium two-row utility is the official vehicle for Black Women in Music and will chauffeur celebrities onto the red carpet. The exclusive event honoring women tonight in Los Angeles will feature an exclusive performance by Kelly Rowland, Grammy Award-winning rapper Eve and MC Lyte.
Stay tuned for photos, first impressions and more live from the red carpet in Los Angeles.
The 54th Annual Grammy Awards will air Feb. 12 on CBS.
