::LIVE FROM NAIAS:: (Detroit, MI) – Ford has announced jeanous “green” initiatives for it’s 2012 vehicles, including the buzz surrounding the Environmentally-Fashion-Concious move made Ford by outfitting its vehicles with recycled denim!
“Ford is continually looking for greener alternatives, the good news is these jeans didn’t end up in a landfill, nor did we use the water, fertilizer and land to grow virgin cotton,” – Carrie Majeske, product sustainability manager.
The amount of post-consumer cotton from blue jeans used in a vehicle comes out to roughly two pairs of average-sized American jeans, based on pounds of cotton used per yard of denim and the yards of denim used to make a pair of jeans.
The 2012 Ford Focus will boast an electric power assist system, Dynamic Cornering Control, the Sync connectivity package with an 8-inch MyFord touch-based control panel in most models, a new 2.0-liter DI Ti-VCT engine, and a dry-clutch six-speed Ford PowerShift automatic transmission. Ford will also offer a fully battery powered electric version, with a driving range of 80-100 miles-for those of you who want to plug and go!
