It’s been an incredible 2013 for Jason Wu thus far. Just last month, he debuted his retail-friendly line, Miss Wu, exclusively for Nordstrom on Jan. 7. (already worn by First Lady Michelle Obama) inspired by chic girls with their boyfriends in the 1960’s and beyond. It’ only makes sense, during New York Fashion Week, Wu’s back at it again. While reports circulated concerns of sparsely attended shows due to the affects of NEMO blizzard – Jason Wu packed a full house! At one of the most anticipated shows at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, revealing the Jason Wu Fall Winter 2013 collection, Wu wowed fashionistas worldwide again.
The collection “Extreme Femininity” included stark white, black, fur, snakeskin, fire engine red and a piercing shot of violet, the silhouettes included exaggerated shoulders in fur shrugs and trench coats, pleated maxi and mini skirts, and a lot of sheer fabric.
“It’s all about the embodiment of a woman—powerful, sensual, sexy, glamorous,” said Jason Wu as he unveiled his looks board backstage before his show. “I wanted to project beauty—beautiful clothes and beautiful women.” But as Wu added, “with every hard edge there’s softness.”
His 2013 take on evening wear puts a new spin on the peplum trend, incorporating it into tuxedo pants instead of skirts or tops.
Ostrich feathers incorporated into 2 dresses, definitely wowed us all especially the winter white one!
Cocktail dresses and tops will get us all ready for the 2014 Gala season with Grecian inspiration. Will it long before Jason creates another custom fit for our First Lady inspired by this collection? We can hardly bare the suspense to see what other amazing work Jason will unveil this year!
