Thanks to the good folks over at AT&T the AT&T HTC HD7S Windows phone managed to become the phone of choice for capturing this week of “firsts”! It was the smartphone used to capture many of my nephews “first” moments as he joined the world earlier this week, from first smile to first diaper change – I (along with my Mom) was able to capture and share it all with the HTC HD7S. After checking out the HTC HD7S text messaging, internet connection, photo/video capabilities and of course calling friends and family to share this week’s big news – I’ve discovered some great and not so great features that’ll help you decide if this is the right phone for you…
UNBOXING
Similar to most smartphones, the AT&T HTC HD7S comes standard with a usb cord which doubles as a power source. Upon opening the unit, it required charging (which doesn’t take long for a complete 100% charge.) Included in the box was the HTC HD7S handset, rechargeable battery, charger, USB charge and sync cable, wired stereo headset (with microphone), quick start guide
SPECS
Similar to the newer Windows Phone 7 devices, the HTC HD7S is running a 1GHz Snapdragon QSD8250 processor with 576MB RAM, 512MB ROM, and 16GB of storage. The 4.3-inch Super LCD screen has a 480×800 pixel resolution and four-point multi-touch. You’ve also got the usual Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1, assisted GPS, 5MP camera with dual LED flash, 1230 mAh battery, 3.5mm stereo headphone jack, and a microUSB 2.0 port. The device dimensions are 68 x 122 x 11.2 millimeters, and it weighs 162 grams.
BATTERY LIFE
The battery life is pretty consistent with most smartphones as well. Lasting almost 277 hours ( in standby / non continuous use.) or over 4 1/2 hours of talk time. Just make sure you charge the phone nightly, if not – don’t plan on using the phone more than 48 hours without a power source.

CAMERA
The fun stuff. The camera captured pretty good photos especially during a week filled with momentous moments. The HTC HD7S can take photos at 5MP with the dual LED flash. As you can see, for a smartphone it takes nice photos. The videos are decent as well, it will record in VGA 640×480 mode. If you go into the settings, you can easily change the resolution to 720P for HD video recording.
{Side note: You may notice the camera has a built in kick stand – perfect for watching videos at your desk or on the dashboard…as long as you’re not driving – of course…)
CONS
External speaker is mono (compared to other HTC models with stereo sound)
No expandable storage options (16GB only)

PURCHASING
Over all this is a cool phone for the price and definitely worth purchasing as a holiday gift.
The HTC HD7S is available from AT&T for about $99.99 with a new contract, but if you’re looking to purchase as a holiday gift you might want to consider the contract option (Brand new without an option will set you back about $355.00).
