How do you define an All American summer? What about an All American weekend? For me, there are only a few things required for an all american weekend, no matter what city or state you’re in, that’s good food, good music and cruising with the top down in a fabulous Ford Mustang!
Last week I whipped through the mean streets of Detroit and had a ball re-discovering my hometown and the all new 2015 Ford Mustang. The all-new Mustang has roared onto the scene with three powerful engines. The available 5.0L V8, which boasts increased power over the previous V8. The 3.7L delivers an ideal balance of power and efficiency and then there is the available all-new 2.3L EcoBoost® – a marvel of an engine that produces 310 hp* and 320 lb.-ft. of torque.
Also new is the technology to help manage and enhance all this power, including upgrades to the available SelectShift® automatic transmission and available new Selectable Drive Modes.
I’ve always had a lust/love relationship with the Ford Mustang since college. There’s just something wild and free about driving with the wind in your hair and no worries holding you back. Maybe that’s the reasoning behind the classic yet refined design.
The all-new Mustang honors what Mustang has always been and always will be, while charging into new aesthetic territory, staking its place in the long line of storied Ford legends. It begins with the brand-new, vintage-style fastback. Even with the lowered decklid, the cargo volume and opening have been retained – even improved in some measures, thanks to the all-new independent rear suspension. The cockpit is equipped with classic gauges alongside state-of-the-art technology. And the interior features a number of new driver and passenger comfort and convenience enhancements.
The new cockpit is built for a performance driving experience. The driver’s seat has been set to a lower, sportier position. It has more travel, adjusting closer or farther away from the instrument panel. The new steering wheel is smaller, for a better, more controlled feel, and it manually telescopes as well as tilts. The ideally positioned shifter leaves ample clearances for the controls and the cupholders have been repositioned outside of the shift path. You’ll enjoy more knee room in the driver’s seat, as well as the comfort of the left-side footrest set to the same angle as the accelerator pedal.
OVERALL FIRST IMPRESSIONS: This car is a beast! The roar of the engine, the smooth transition of gears, the quick transition of the convertible top, it’s a summertime dream. It’s no wonder that this is just an intro to a two-part series. I think we can all agree that we got robbed of our long-awaited summer season – but no worries!
